Vacation in the Sun Coming? Get Your Skin Prepped!

Preparing for a vacation in the sun?  There are a few things to consider getting your skin sun-ready!

Back off on Exfoliation

Many chemicals used to exfoliate your skin can leave your skin more sun-sensitive and susceptible to burning.  Retinoic Acid (vitamin A), glycolic acid, salicylic acids are fairly potent exfoliants or “peels.”  While they leave your skin soft and smooth, with a lovely glow, they can leave that new layer very exposed to the suns burning rays.  So, plan to avoid these for one to two weeks prior to direct sun exposure.

Check Serums and Other Skin Treatments

Anti-aging, acne, and hyper-pigmentation serums and treatments often contain retinoic, glycolic and salicylic acids.  Read the labels of your products and discontinue their use if you plan to have full sun exposure.  And do not worry about potential break outs or the dulling of your skin; sun, salt, and even wind are great natural exfoliants.  You will be back to your glowing best after a day or two on the beach!

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!

Hey, did anyone say “hydrate?”  Probably the singularly most important thing to do for your skin, aside from applying sun protection, is hydrating your skin.  Certainly, ensuring you drink water is critical but applying a hydrating serum is also important.  Serums and treatments using components such as Hyaluronic Acid, help to bolster and hydrate the skin so that summer sun’s drying rays can wreak less havoc.

Apply Sun Screen Liberally and Often

Of course!  And almost enough; however, remember to use no less than an SPF 35.

And never forget to relax and enjoy and cast your cares to the sea!
